LYTKEN HAANDVAERK is run by me, Marie Lytken.
I am a furniture maker, potter, and teacher.
I aim to make objects out of wood and clay that are simple, beautiful, and both down-to-earth and light at the same time. My focus is not only to craft aesthetically pleasing items - I put just as much value in making functional and durable items, that are intuitive and fit for daily use.
I´m hugely inspired from Japanese crafts traditions, particularly when it comes to shapes and materials.
FURNITURE MAKER I earned my certificate and a silver medal in 2021. I design & make wooden furniture with fine details, and specialize in marquetry decoration. I try to use danish or relatively local wood, and I have a penchant for warm and light shades, such as pine, ash, maple and cherry.
POTTER I am a self-taught potter and have been wheel throwing for +20 years. During those years, I have refined my techniques through stays and studies in both Denmark, Norway and Japan. My pottery features simple shapes, calm colors, and textures that are soft to touch. I aim for a zero waste process in the workshop.
TEACHER I am a trained teacher who enjoys sharing design and craftsmanship. I have taught at Design Museum Denmark and currently teach woodwork and ceramics classes at FOF. And now in my very own studio as well!
